General Information - Sightseeing

The Moorish influence on Spain is well known and is still visible in its architecture.  Mojacar Pueblo, the small hill-top, ancient center of the town, is full of local history and spectacular views of the beaches and surrounding country-side.  There are delightful bars and restaurants as well as many tourist shops, selling locally produced goods, along its narrow streets and up its steep stairs.  Artists also sell their drawings, paintings and iron-work in the hill-top Mojacar Pueblo.  In the town are booklets in English and Spanish that tell you where to go for nature walks and hikes in the Natural Park of Cabo of Gata Nijar or the Sorbas Caves and Desert area, or to the semi-urban open air markets of Turre, Garrucha, Vera or Cuevas de Almanzora.

Mojacar is only 2 and 1/2 hours from Granada , the closest major urban center, with its historic park and castle.

There is an " Aqua Park " in the near-by village of Vera, about 20 minutes to the east by car.  This is a spectacular water park with enormous water slides and swimming pools, a wave machine and hundreds of sun beds for lying around and reading.  Food and beverages are available at the park, making this an ideal "day out" for the whole family.

The nearby villages of Vera, Garrucha, and Mojacar Pueblo also have open-air markets once a week.  One can buy fresh produce and an assortment of goods – such as beach towels, clothing and souvenirs – at these open air Almeria markets.

About 30 minutes away to the west of Mojacar by car is a "Mini-Hollywood" site where several Clint Eastwood western theme films were made, including The Good, the Bad and the Ugly as well as For a Fistful of Dollars.  You can tour the sets and feel as if you are in the "Old West," as you watch lawmen and outlaws fight it out, just like they did in Tombstone and Dodge City in the late 1800s in the American West.
